Business is steady this year so far with a good variety of property development projects and infrastructure surveys. Some planning permissions have been granted with the supporting tree surveys and tree protection schemes. Some projects have come back time and again for layout revisions and fresh planning applications. The customer base is gradually expanding and many loyal clients continue to come back to Argenta for their new projects.

A marketing exercise has just been launched, targeting building contractors in the east of England, offering the services of Argenta Tree Surveys to help them with their planning permissions and discharge of planning conditions for already consented developments. Hopefully we'll pick up some new clients on the way.

Local Planning Authorities seem more and more to be granting planning permission conditional upon the provision of an Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS) prior to commencement of development. When building proposals involve engineering works close to trees that are to be kept as part of a development, the British Standards Institution recommends an AMS. Where Argenta has identified works close to trees, an AMS heads of terms is usually listed within the report but more often than not, the Local Authority has not often followed this on with a planning condition, but that seems to be changing. As a result, more instructions than usual are being given for the provision of an AMS following planning permission. This does not usually require a repeat visit to site, but can be quite involved and time-consuming nonetheless.
